Bill 47: Ensuring Safety and Cutting Red Tape Act, 2020
This Bill aims to bring balance to workplaces and help ensure workers can rely on a sustainable compensation system for illness or injury on the job. It does so by simplifying language and removing unnecessary barriers for job creators. It also does so without making big changes to worker’s rights and protections.
Bill 47 updates the following legislation:
- Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Radiation Protection Act
- Workers’ Compensation Act
What’s Next?
Bill 47’s changes don’t go into effect at once. They are staggered throughout the year, with most changes to the Occupational Health and Safety Act going into effect upon proclamation. Amendments to the Workers’ Compensation Act will be in effect January 1, 2021. And changes to the Fair Practices Office and Medical Panels Office will be in effect April 1, 2021.
